SUNSHINE
I don’t paint my nails much anymore. I’ve started to keep them short and with the smaller real estate, the painting and decoration of them has seemed less interesting. Or, if I’m being 100% honest, I just didn’t want to deal with them on the regular. Women influenced by western beauty standards have so many things to keep up on: straightening the hair, removal of certain hair, makeup coverups, makeup trends, AGEING, etc. I could go on, but I’m already anxious.
But nails. The nail art culture has expanded. It covers so many demographics now, there is art (and fun!) to be had for any age, gender, or level-of-interest. And just because I’ve personally opted out from the nail scene(s) due to my overall laziness and equal parts female-presenting anxious tendencies, doesn’t mean I don’t appreciate the glam-fun of nail art expression. I LOVE IT. (Anyone up for a drink and some Claws episodes? Niecy Nash forever.)
With all that said, one of the newest ways for me to engage with the nail scene is using images for color palette inspiration. Flipping thru the social media platforms, eyes glazed over while being visually turned on by all the options and color pops. I cease to be amazed and relaxed in tandem. For me, few things can hit this unique and hard to reach button.
YELLOW seems to be trending. Or at least in my little bubble of the world. The wonderful Lily at my doctor’s office shared her reznors (yup, surprised me too) with me; bright, sunny, and sharp. All the multitudes at play, resulting in endless options Which makes it oh-so fun to spot that underlying thread that crosses so many niche lewks.
I see you, yellow. And you look fab.
